We’re  on number 5 out of our 100 films.  It’s been a lot of work sitting on a couch and watching movies, and we can almost taste the achievement.

This week, our heroes are examining the youngest of the films on the top 10.  “SCHINDLER’S LIST” is the retelling of a portion of the 2oth century’s darkest hour.  Directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Liam Neeson, Ben Kingsley, and Ralph Fiennes, Schindler’s List is the story of Oskar Schindler and the 1100 people who we now refer to as the “Schindler Jews”.

It’s one of those “Sophie’s Choice”/”Saving Private Ryan” episodes, so prepare yourself for a little bit less tomfoolery than usually clutters up Mass Moviecide.

This week is all about detectives.  We look at the gritty, bloody nosed, noir-ish CHINATOWN, followed by the heart pumping, rough and tumble flick THE FRENCH CONNECTION.  With all this detective work, maybe…just maybe, we can figure out what the hell they mean by “picking” their “feet”.

Things are about to get a little bit violent, ladies and gents.

This week, our heroes are throwing on some flak vests and squaring off, guns a blazin’, with some serious gangsters!  We’ve got BONNIE AND CLYDE and PULP FICTION.  Two gangster flicks of completely different times, styles, and genres.  Who knows?  By the end we may have redefined the term anti-hero, or maybe even have figured out just what’s in the briefcase.  You’ll have to listen to find out.

Our selections both feature members of the Sheen dynasty.  First up is PLATOON starring Charlie Sheen, followed by APOCALYPSE NOW starring Martin Sheen.  The fact that both movies take place within the Vietnam War is purely a coincidence.

Welcome back, Movieciders.  This week we’re heading to boot camp and shipping out for MASH and SAVING PRIVATE RYAN.

I suppose that it’s fitting that this episode be released around the 2011 anniversary of D-Day, and while we may be balancing the horrific images in “Saving Private Ryan” with the screwball laughs of “MASH”, we at MASS MOVIECIDE still want to pause and salute the armed forces, and remember those who have given all they could to protect their country.

Not much “cutesy” material I can type out here.  A little laughter, a few tears.  Still, just because we respect the era and the history, it doesn’t mean the movies will automatically escape our three hero’s wrath.

It just so happens that episode 18 is released on Memorial Day 2011, here in the USA.  Fitting, that our films include a bit of American history then (both on-screen and off).

This week, we take a look at another two westerns.  HIGH NOON, and BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID.

A Moviecide milestone in this weeks episode.  You’ll know it when you hear it.

As for business as usual, this week it’s BRINGING UP BABY and DR STRANGELOVE: OR HOW I LEARNED TO STOP WORRYING AND LOVE THE BOMB.  These are two comedies of an unusual sort, ladies and gentlemen!

The question is, “Which will our heroes prefer?”  Enjoy!

We just keep on truckin’, Movieciders.  In what is almost a sequel to last weeks episode, our heroes are seeing both William Holden and Billy Wilder again.  Considering the consistency of these Hollywood personalities, maybe it’s no wonder these movies made the AFI list.

This week, we autopsy two of geekdoms most beloved tales.  We’re putting STAR WARS and THE LORD OF THE RINGS on the chopping block.  Obviously, we may have to put eyes in the back of our heads after our opinions get out, but then there’s not much to worry about when the best weapon the person you’re offending has is a 20 sided dice.

Yeah, it’s that kind of week.  You’re gonna need all the adventurers gear you can find.  Leather jacket, bullwhip, rope, bag of weight-trickery sand, etc.   Either that, or just a gray suit and tie.

This time we roll out a couple of laugh factories, but we’ve got a bit of a contrast.  In the first half, we’ve got a silent classic from Charlie Chaplin, “THE GOLD RUSH”.  In the second half, we have the witty, fast paced dialogue of Woody Allen in his breakthrough hit “ANNIE HALL”.

If silence is indeed golden, and melancholy men are indeed of all others the most witty, then we shouldn’t even have to wonder why these two are on the list.

But if we assumed that…it wouldn’t be Mass Moviecide would it? Boxing gloves, ladies and gentlemen.

Hello, Movieciders, our old friends!  You’ve come to Moviecide again!

This week, the hills are indeed alive, but only with the sounds of critique and argument.  We’re giving our opinions of THE SOUND OF MUSIC and THE GRADUATE.  These two films are not only considered great American classics, but both contributed musically in their own way to the soundtrack of the 1960’s (and perhaps, most would say, beyond).

This week, it’s hilarious visual clown gags, and edgy one-liners that still leave a cut!  It’s our MARX BROTHERS episode.  Our courageous Moviecide heroes are making some DUCK SOUP and taking in a NIGHT AT THE OPERA.  Not only did the Marx Brothers leave their golden mark on comedy, they made the AFI “100 Years…100 Movies” list twice.

The question is, do our heroes agree?  Will the brothers be lifted up as trailblazers or cut down as cigar-scented list-spot-hogs?  Find out, this week, on MASS MOVIECIDE!

Another week, another MASS MOVIECIDE!

This time out we’re looking at two very heavy, very heated, very relevant films that not only each changed cinema in their own times, but furthered the national debate on civil rights and where we stand on the issue of racism even today.

…but that doesn’t mean that our heroic panel will automatically find them “fun” to watch.

Put your hard hats on, Movieciders.  These films are gonna spark debate, alright.  While these movies may have the right message at heart, it may be hard to “Do The Right Thing” when entertaining this trio.

This week we did anything but depress ourselves with these depression era movies.  We’ve got THE GRAPES OF WRATH and SULLIVAN’s TRAVELS.  Little bit o’ drama, little bit o’ comedy, lotta bit o’ great movie.  If you’d like to put the punch of these flicks in perspective, Steven Spielberg mentioned THE GRAPES OF WRATH by name in his presentation of the Best Picture Oscar last night!  That should be a small clue as to whether or not this weeks choices have stood the test of time.

Put your lips together and whistle while Morgan Freeman narrates.  It’s appropriate that it’s valentines day, because we love these kick-ass movies!  Join us as we blow up the Bridge on The River Kwai and escape from The Shawshank Redemption (all in a nice, neat 60 minutes).

MASS MOVIECIDE: The newest reason why Mondays don’t suck!

We’re back from our venture into the creepy, chilly, ghostly, frightening, slasher realm.

Time to liven things up a little, I’d say.  That’s why this week our movies are TOOTSIE and SOME LIKE IT HOT.  These two flicks are considered by AFI to be the funniest films of all time.  In fact, they appear in the number one and two spots on AFI’s 100 Years…100 Laughs list.  It’s no wonder they appear here on the main 100 Years…100 Movies list.

It’s here! It’s here!  The podcast that is centuries…..well, decades……well…..WEEKS in the making has finally arrived!

Welcome to MASS MOVIECIDE.  We are 3 guys who like movies and decided “Hey, I haven’t seen very many of them thar those AFI’s 100 Movies list.  Maybe I should go do somethin’ ’bout that thar.”  And so it began.

In the coming weeks, we will make our way through AFI’s 100 Years, 100 Movies.   This is not a “Best of All Time” list, though many think of it as such.  Consider it more of a “Hey, Catch These Flicks Before Ya’ Die” list, and that’s how we’re approaching it.  We’ll be reviewing the movies with our feeble, every-man, moviegoer brains, and reporting to you just what we think of each film.  2 movies per week, 100 movies total.  That’s a long way to go, so we’d better get to it.

THIS WEEK, we begin our quest with two suspense thrillers.  It’s new school meets old school with M. Night Shyamalan’s THE SIXTH SENSE, and Alfred Hitchcock’s PSYCHO.   Proton packs and showercaps, ladies and gentlemen!  This could get messy.

Our first episode is going to be a review of M. Night Shyamalan’s THE SIXTH SENSE, and Alfred Hitchcocks PSYCHO.
